
Rules
- The official OKWiffle field is a pie shaped field which has three lines at 60, 80, and 90 feet representing the infield line (1), doubles line (2). and outfield wall (3). A fair play line (4)is located 12 feet down the lines as well.
- *Updated* The pitchers mound is 43 feet from home plate and 46 feet from the target strike zone.
- A target strike zone is placed 3 (three) feet behind home plate and will measure 24" x 30" and 13" off the ground.
- *Updated* Team rosters consist of 2-5 players. A pitcher and a fielder plays defense. All players on a roster must bat.
- Teams must bat in the same batting order through the entire game. Batting out of order will result in a penalty of an out.
- *Updated* Pitchers must finish the current at-bat and may not re-enter the game after appearing in the game.
- There are no restrictions on pitch speeds.
- *Updated* Official OKWiffle games are four innings in length.
- Each inning consists of either three outs or five runs per team. In the final inning a team may score ten runs.
- A seven run mercy rule is in effect after the second completed inning.
- Four balls - Walk.
- Three Strikes - Strikeout.
- *Updated* In the first three pitches of an at-bat, any pitch hitting the target strike zone but not swung at - Strikeout.
- *New* Any pitch thrown not hitting the backstop - Wild Pitch. All runners on base advance one base.
- A ball must cross the fair play line to be fair.
- Ball hit past the infield line - single.
- Ball hit past the doubles line - double.
- Ball hit off the outfield wall in the air - triple.
- Ball hit over the outfield wall - home run.
- *Updated* Ground balls fielded before the infield line and thrown into the backstop behind home plate = out for hitter. Ball cannot come to a complete stop before being fielded or touch the ground after being fielded. The hitter -- heading to first -- is the player recorded as out.
- *Updated* Double Plays are completed by any infield ball being fielded and then thrown into the target strike zone with a forced runner on base. The lead forced runner and the runner on first is ruled out on a successful double play. Otherwise, any ball thrown into the backstop is a regular ground ball putout.
- All Base runners are imaginary and move as follows: one base on a single or a fair ball putout, three bases on a double or triple. With two outs, runners move an extra base on a clean outfield single.
- All extra innings start with the bases loaded.
- Batters may not move into the path of pitches. Batters will receive a warning (and a no-pitch) first and then a strike out for all subsequent violations.
- The batter's hands are part of the bat.
- Pitchers get 10 warm-up pitches before a game and 7 before an inning. There are no balks but pitchers must pitch from the rubber.
General League Rules
- The official baseball-sized Wiffle Ball with 8 oblong holes (patent no. 1149044) is the official ball of OKWiffle.
- A regulation bat for OKWiffle must be rounded on all sides, while not exceeding thirty-eight (38) inches in length, two and three-quarters (2 3/4) inches in diameter. Bats not meeting this criteria will be deemed illegal for use.
- Spikes/cleats are prohibited. Players should wear sneakers for proper footwear.
- No baseball gloves are allowed.
- Uniforms are encouraged but not required.
- *New*Teams will play four games each regular season weekend unless otherwise specified by the league commissioner.
- *New* Pitchers may pitch half of a teams innings on a game day. On a typical day, this is 8 innings for each pitcher. Extra innings do not count against the pitch innings count.
- *New* The home team must keep the score for each game.
- *Updated* Schedules for each week will be determined by a random draw at the beginning of the day.
- *Updated* A coin toss determines the home/away status for each game.
- *Updated* There are no refunds of league fees.
- All players will conduct themselves in a sportsmanlike fashion. Taunting, berating or other type of disrespectful conduct towards opponents and/or league officials will not be tolerated. Any violations may result in an ejection from the game and/or tournament.
- The league commissioner is in complete charge of the tournament.
- *New* Standings are deteremined by the league's points system. Teams earn points as follows:
- 1 point for every 5 base runners.
- 1 point for every 10 strikeouts.
- 3 points for every 7 runs you score.
- 3 points for each game played.
- 5 points for a tie and sudden death loss.
- 5 points for a shutout in regulation (win or loss).
- 7 points for a tie and sudden death win.
- 10 points for each regulation win.
Who Makes the Call
- Fair and foul balls are the responsibility of the batter.
- Singles, doubles, triples will be the responsibility of the fielder closest to the ball.
- Check swings are the responsibility of the pitcher.
- Foul balls off the hands are the responsibility of the batter.
- Batters interference is the call of the pitcher.
- The offense is responsible for determining if defensive plays are executed as the rules state.
